Dubbed as the “Second Sanam Luang”, Thon Buri Grounds and Thon Buri Weekend Market is located on Liap Khlong Thawi Watthana Road in Thawi Watthana District of Bangkok. It covers an area of 44 acres (110 Rai), 24 acres (60 Rai) of which are devoted to the Thon Buri Grounds, 16 acres (40 Rai) to the Thon Buri Weekend Market. The market consists of 6,000 stalls, divided into 10 groups and 40 types of commodity.




The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has established a policy of developing a public park and a recreational site adjacent to the weekend market at the “Second Sanam Luang”. The market offers a wide range of local products, agricultural goods and other essential commodities. It also provides trading areas for people to operate their business. This is to help them during the economic slump. The Office of BMA Market is the responsible agency for the arrangement of the Thon Buri Weekend Market.



The Thon Buri Weekend Market is set to become Thailand’s biggest trading center for orchids and fancy fish. It is the first weekend market that provides trolleys for shoppers like those in general supermarkets. There are two large buildings to organize exhibitions and occupational training in orchid culture together with contests of orchids, decorative plants, pets, fancy fish, amulets etc…



In addition, the BMA has opened a boat service, starting from the BMA Tourism Promotion Center at the foot of the Pin Klao Bridge, passing through the Thawi Watthana Canal and heading for the Thon Buri Grounds and Thon Buri Weekend Market. Tourists can furher visit orchid farms amid the fine and shady atmosphere in Thon Buri on the west side of the Chao Phraya River.



They can easily proceed to other nearby tourist attrations as well as Utthayan Road, Buddha Monthon Religious Study Center, Thai Human Imaginary Museum and Phra Pathom Chedi or Great Pagoda in Nakhon Pathom Province.
