Discovering Thon Buri Great History
The west side of Rattanakosin island, or Thon Buri, is a beautiful area with great significance with regard to history, archeology, art, architecture, culture as well as tradition. It is a place with numerous tourist attractions where one can experience many fascinating aspects of local daily life.
Major attractions include Wat Arunrajawararam Rajavorn Viharn, Wat Rakangkositaram, the Princess Mother's National Park, Klong Bangkok Noi community. Futuremore, Thon Buri has been the center of administration for the country since the past.
It was the beginning for the evolution of Bangkok to what it is today.
Realizing the importance of Thon Buri and its many appealing, Thon Buri has undertaken steps to develop tourism and culture insides on the west side of Rattanakosin island, by reviving various tourist attractions and developing local tourist by emphasizing community participation.
Under this project, a total of 100 local tour guides where trained to enable them to improve their knowledge of history and various interesting tour sites. Creative activities to promote tourism and culture are regularly organized. These include organized discussion groups and listening to elderly folk talk on the history of Thon Buri's communities (with a English translator present).
The Bangkok Tourist Bureau has also come out with a brochure showing sites around Rattanakosin Island and a Bangkok Noi Tourist Handbook, to enable tourist and the general public to visit and experience Thon Buri on their own.
